Sandvik's modified 12C27 stainless steel developed for Opinel is known for its cutting and easy maintenance. Stainless steel capable of undergoing the heat treatment that gives it its excellent hardness is called martensitic. It has a carbon content of at least 0.40% which allows it to obtain a very satisfactory cutting edge without being susceptible to corrosion. Blade hardness 57-58 HRC
Oak is a hard wood, very resistant, especially to insects and fungi due to its high tannin content. Coming from French companies, it has a yellow-brown appearance, with straight and regular grain. The handle is varnished to protect it from dirt and humidity.
Invented in 1955 by Marcel Opinel, the Virobloc safety ring is present on all folding knives from the N°06 onwards. Cut into stainless steel, the Virobloc is made up of two parts: a fixed part and a sliding part. In addition to locking the blade in the open position (safety of use), it is now possible to lock the blade in the closed position (safety of transport).
